The Poached Peking Dumpling

Kolkata’s love for food is no secret and the affection it showers to good food joints is widely known. During our trip over the long holiday this April we visited YAUATCHA, which is a Michelin-starred restaurant from London and is the fourth Indian city to be present in after Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore. The dish we present to you is one we always order without miss, the Poached Peking Dumpling. The dish consists of three light dumplings, steamed to perfection, swimming in a beautiful broth of Soy sauce and other herbs and spices to bring together an explosion of flavours with every bite. We love eating here as we end up having a light meal usually before catching a movie next door.

The Succulent Chicken Tikka

When it comes to a good kabab, I just cannot resist and during this short trip to Kolkata I was lucky enough to try one of the most succulent chicken tikka I have ever tasted. This was at the number 1 restaurant in Kolkata; Dum Pukht. Being at the top for a while now and serving exquisite food, what can I say? This chicken tikka was everything you can ask for. Every piece is perfectly cooked and spiced throughout, just melting in your mouth with the flavours dancing on your palette. Every bite leaves you craving for some more. The picture that you see was consumed entirely by me. This is a fine dining restaurant so it is a bit pricey but worth it.

P.S. I have mentioned this in a previous post but have to mention it again; hats off to their staff for impeccable service.

Kolkata’s Famous Dum Biryani

Yesterday was my wife’s birthday and we decided to go to the number 1 restaurant in Kolkata; Dum Pukht. There is a reason why this restaurant has been the top for sometime now. Both their food and service is top notch. The dish we bring to you today is what they are most famous for; The Mutton Dum Biryani. What can I say? We were absolutely blown away by this Biryani. We Bangladeshi’s love our Biryani and guys this is a must try. It is different from our local Kacchi Biryani but every bite  of this Biryani is a bite from heaven. Slow cooked over Dum, with meat that is falling off the bone, every grain of rice is cooked perfectly. They serve it with a Raita that rhymes perfectly with this biryani. Every bite leaves you craving for some more. This is a fine dining restaurant so it is a bit pricey but worth it.

P.S. Hats off to their staff for impeccable service

The Legendary Chili Paneer

We are down in Kolkata this weekend to celebrate my wife’s birthday so you all can expect a wave of delicious food coming from here. The dish we bring to you comes from one of the oldest Chinese restaurants in Kolkata, Bar-B-Q. We proudly present one of our favourite dishes, which we must have every time we visit Kolkata; the Chili Paneer. This Chili Paneer is soft and delicate and beautifully tossed with onions, garlic and chili and makes your taste palettes go crazy with every bite. This is a must try dish.

The Fiery Szechuan Chicken

Clearly, Bar-B-Q in Kolkata is one of our favorite go-to places, and so we had to share another dish which is a must try. We present the fiery Szechuan Chicken. As the name suggests this dish packs a punch and has a great hit of chili infused with Szechuan flavour. We usually have this as a starter but you can have this as a main paired with garlic fried rice or spicy chow-mien.

The Famous Cello Kebab

Ask anybody, “Give me the names of a couple of places to eat in Kolkata” and one of the places that many will recommend is Peter Cat to try their famous Cello Kebab. This famous kebab for which people line up for up to an hour (during lunch and dinner hours) is termed in their menu as the ‘Regional Product of Bengal’, prepared with rare spices, blended with Persian herbs and served on a bed of beautifully fragrant rice, butter and an egg. We did not feel that it lived up to its hype along with the waiting time, but it was surely delicious and worth a try.
